Starting from the fountain in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel, downtown Memphis is an artful place to stroll about. Up Union Avenue. Past WDIA. Into The Cotton Exchange and a look out the window onto the Mississippi River. You get a better sense of place when you walk around a town. And the nice thing about walking tours in downtown Memphis, you get to cover a lot of ground. The City has thoughtfully provided us with a trolley system that loops through all of the neighborhoods. A combination walking tour and trolley ride enables you to explore the rich architecture and varied cultural landscape. Court Square. The Pinch District. Riverfront Loop. The Lorraine Motel. The train station and South Main art galleries. Good coffee at Bluff City Cafe. A Memphis Mary on Beale Street. Be curious and in good shape. |
